Deprescribing Psychotropic Medications
Many patients remain on psychotropic medications, such as antidepressants, long after they may no longer be necessary. While these medications can provide significant benefits initially, continued use does not always offer ongoing advantages. However, discontinuing them can be challenging, as withdrawal symptoms—often mistaken for a relapse—can emerge if the tapering process is too abrupt.
The key to successful deprescribing is a gradual and individualized tapering plan that minimizes withdrawal effects. This process requires close monitoring, open communication, and ongoing support. Regular video check-ins and phone follow-ups help manage withdrawal symptoms and adjust the approach as needed.
With extensive experience in navigating complex tapering processes, I work closely with each patient to ensure a safe and effective transition off medication. My approach is highly personalized, emphasizing patient autonomy, collaboration, and accessibility. If concerns arise at any point, I remain available for direct support.
